Kenedi Anderson quits American Idol for Personal Reasons

Kenedi has decided to withdraw from our show for personal reasons.”

18-year-old Kenedi Anderson’s who won Platinum ticket quits the 20th season of American Idol. The early frontrunner was one of 3 contestants to win the coveted platinum ticket which fast-tracks them past Hollywood Week.

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest announced the news in a video clip inserted into Monday’s episode after following Anderson’s performance of Christina Perri’s ‘Human’.”You may have noticed that there was no vote information during Kenedi’s performance today. Because we recorded this show in Hawaii in the past, Kenedi has decided to leave the show for personal reasons.”

Then, he added “We offer her our best wishes. Of course, we have incredible talent during this historic season with more memorable Idol performances coming to you soon.”

Since Anderson’s departure, only one of eleven performers on the Monday show will be eliminated to complete the top 20.

Following the announcement. Anderson posted a post on Instagram and called this “one of the toughest decisions I’ve faced” however “I believe it’s the right thing to do.” Anderson also cited “personal motives” to justify her sudden resignation.

There have been similar withdrawals previously. Last year, another frontrunner Wyatt Pike pulled out the following finishing in the Top 16 round, using “personal reason.”

“You may be the biggest performer we’ve ever seen,” Bryan told Anderson following her audition, which has racked up more than 4.9 million hits in YouTube. “I really believe that your music journey to the end of your life has begun from here.”

In Hollywood Week, Anderson followed with a string of impressive performances performing Bill Withers’ “Lean on Me” alongside co-contestant Jordan Chase for the duet round. Then, he sang Bruno Mars’ “Talking to the Moon” for the show-stoppers round.

This past Monday Anderson was a singer at Aulani which is a Disney Resort and Spa located in Hawaii with an audience of live viewers in a line-up of 12 contestants in one of the 24 contestants who came in first place. (The other 12 performed in the Saturday’s show.)
