Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have called it quits. They both announced the news on their Instagram Stories Wednesday night.
Writing quote, “Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship, but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever”.
Shawn and Camila added quote, “We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward.” Camila said in August, “I think we are supportive of each other.”
News of a breakup comes as a surprise for the couple who just celebrated Halloween together, singing and dancing in matching folkloric outfits in honour of the day of the dead. Shawn Mendes and Camila started dating in July of 2019 and moved together during the COVID 19 pandemic.
Shawn Mendes said, “I think when you know, you know, and she’s been one of my best friends that was like, I don’t know at the same time I know we’re young, so I don’t want to jump like insanely fast. But when you find that person, you feel, and you know that you found the person.”
The two recently celebrated their second anniversary, and we’re all smiles. They hit the red carpets at this year’s Met Gala at the premiere of Milos movies Cinderella.
Shawn Mendes said, “I think we’re both highly mushy people. We’re both super sensitive, which creates a lot of sensitivity. But we are songwriters, so we’re constantly searching for sensitive topics. And I don’t know; I’m pretty mushy. I don’t know what she would impasse you into that. I feel like she would maybe stay on for Monday.
In 2019, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello opened up to ET about how their love inspired her songwriting. Camila Cabello said, “I feel like I really painted the details of, you know, like when you’re first dating someone that you’ve been friends with for a really long time, and it just feels like Oh, my God, like we’re, we’re kissing now. And you know, I think I’ve just really captured what that moment felt like.”

Camila Cabello went into his dressing room to say, “Hi, and before she knew it, they were writing a song. She said, “That’s really when the saga started. I really liked him. I guess he liked me, but I didn’t really know.”
In November, they released their first duet, “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, and the rumours intensified about the songs lyrics that seemed to imply that something more was going on. They performed the song on the talk show circuit, including on The Tonight Show.
Around this time, John began writing his second album to be heard. She had feelings for another guy and wrote ruin about her lyrics like “I’m not tryna to ruin your happiness, baby, but darling, Don’t you know that I’m the only one.” He revealed his confusion at the time.
In June 2016. They won the Best Pop Video and fan favourite at the iHeartRadio Music Video Awards and looked so cute on stage.
Later in March of 2017. They covered Kinsey by Ed Sheeran as a duet. It was getting harder to believe that they didn’t have feelings for each other. Fast forward to May, and Camilla releases her first single, “Crying in the Club”. Shawn tweeted, “speechless goosebumps all over your incredible.” Seriously so cute of him to support her.
Around 2018, Shawn reports that he finally admitted to himself that he had feelings for Camila worth pursuing and this sort of marks the undercover phase of their romance.
In April 2018, Shawn released his third studio album, “Shawn Mendes”. During the tour, Heartbeat radio. “She is my favourite in the whole world.”
“I don’t think you’ll ever meet somebody who can feel emotion like her in all aspects. Her love for what she believed in was so powerful that, it just kind of pushed me to like make an entire album and of inspiration of the one night.”
Camilla Cabello responded with a tweet after she heard the interview. “I shouldn’t be crying at this time in the morning. But I am crying emoji verbal heart emoji crying emoji. I love you so much, Shawn Mendes.
