I’m going to walk you through how to set up the Amazon Echo Dot 4th gen.
I’ll be taking you through all the steps in this post to get you setup Amazon echo dot 4th Gen and ready to go, just simply to get to know your Echo Dot.
Echo Dot 4th Gen have four buttons on the top. This is going to be the action button, this circle that plus and minus for volume up and volume down and then also you have a button here to mute the Echo Dot 4th generation that’s going to deactivate the microphone.
Plug in the power cord, and there’s also a headphone jack here so you can plug into speakers, for instance.
Amazon Alexa App
So they have a three steps process here basically first download the Amazon Alexa app on your phone, second step Plugin in your Echo Dot and step number three is going to be setting up echo dot itself and through that Alexa app. I’ll take you over to my phone and walk you through the steps on how to do that.
First we’re going to do is plug in the Echo Dot 4th gen. So we’re going to take the power cord here, and one side we’re going to plug into the wall and the other side we’re going to plug in to the back of our device.
It’s going to be this larger one is for the power cord. The one that’s over on the left-hand side, I guess it depends on what side you’re looking from because on this side it would be on the right-hand side, but if you have it facing you, then it’s going to be over on the left-hand side and then we’re going to get this blue ring that is moving around on our Echo Dot 4th gen. It says Alexa will greet you and let you know to complete setup in the Alexa app, and this will take roughly around a minute or so for your device to get to that point where he starts talking to you and asks you to set things up.
“Hello. Your device is ready for setup.
Just follow the instructions in your
Alexa app bringing your device online.
Just a moment.
Your echo is ready”

Download Alexa App
So the next step, download Alexa App to phone, you can get this over at the Google Play store if you’re on Apple, it’s going to be over in the Apple App Store that you download those app.
I’m gonna open up the Play Store, on the top search bar area type in Alexa app. Once you’re over in the Alexa app and page what you’re going to do is download it from this area I already have it downloaded so it’s asking if I want to open it from this page but again, you’re just gonna want to download that Amazon Alexa application if this is the first device that you’re setting up but with Amazon Alexa.
If you don’t get an app icon that automatically pops up. You should also be able to drag up the bottom screen of your device. If it’s in alphabetical order the Amazon Alexa app should show up right towards the top of this list, when you pull up from the bottom of the screen, it’s going to show you an area that has all of the applications that are on your phone so that’s another way that you can find the Alpha resets it was doing an automatic setup.
Complete Amazon Echo Setup
It shows me a notification in my top bar area. When I dragged on the top of my screen, there a notification from Amazon Alexa that I got. It says Complete echo setup your Echo is almost ready.
Tap into complete setup so you can do that if you’re in the same situation as me. Just half that area but I’m going to try to take you through a more manual approach to this for those that are having their first time setting this up through the Amazon Alexa app so now we’re going to launch that Alexa application by clicking on it.
Finish Echo Dot Setup
It gives us a notification right in this top area to finish Echo Dot 4th gen setup, but again if this is your first time using this application, it’s going to prompt you to log in using your Amazon account if you don’t have an Amazon account, he will also give you the opportunity to set up an account with your Amazon Alexa application. If you’re not prompted to set up your device automatically, like it is for me right there at the top where it says finish Echo Dot setup, what you can do to set this up manually.
Add a Device
- Go down into the bottom right-hand corner and click where it says “More”.
- Click the little plus sign that says Add a Device.
This is going to be Amazon Echo.
I’m going to click right there on that icon, and this is going to be an echo, echo dot.
So I’m going to select that area and then it says, is your Echo plugged in? It has that orange light circling the device.
I’m going to click Yes.
If you’re having an issue where you’re not getting that orange light to circle around your echo device. You can also hold down the action button, that’s towards the back of your Echo Dot 4th generation.
Enable Setup Mode
If you hold that button down and for a while, eventually it will go into setup mode so again going to be clicking yes in this area, and then it says a select your Amazon Echo and it shows up in my available devices.
I’m going to click on it and it says select your Wi-Fi network and it’s going to scan for the wireless routers that are in your general vicinity.
Connecting Your Echo Dot to wi-fi
It says connecting your Echo Dot to wi-fi. Make sure your device is nearby, plugged in, and in pairing mode individually, as long as everything is hooked up properly, it should finally connected to the internet, your wi-fi wireless internet connection, and so we’re going to go ahead, and click Continue and then it asking Which room is your Echo Dot and for me, it’s going to be in the living room.
Click Continue and now it’s going to take us through some different options here, so it says “Teach Alexa your voice” you can do this by clicking Continue. So then it just created my voice profiles and I can go ahead and click Next.
Then it’s going to ask you for your personal home address. You can click on that file with your Amazon account or you can manually type one and if you want to do that.
Enable Echo Dot the sidewalk feature
It’s giving me the option to enable the sidewalk feature. I’m a quick wager on that, and here is offering a 30 day free trial to Amazon Music. I’m gonna say no thanks to that, and same thing with Audible. Say no thanks to that, as a setup complete. You’re ready to start talking to your Amazon Echo device.
I’m going to go ahead and click done. We’re good to go at this point so your Amazon echo is going to start talking to you. Some different tutorial options to familiarize yourself with the device that you can do that at this point.
Echo Settings Menu
Now let’s take a deep dive into the device settings. We’re going to tap on the Devices tab down here at the bottom. There are two ways to get to it.
- Tap on the echo option right there, or
- You can head down into the room here for the group that you created with the echo.
We have the echo trying to tap on it.
Next, you have audio now this is only going to adjust the music volume of what is currently playing. “Sir, here is playing something, I can just come in here”. So then there I have access to control the volume without my voice or touch the actual device.
Next, we have audio settings. So in here you can customize the bass, midrange, and treble. You can just push the plus to increase the bass. The minus to lower the mid-range and adjust this to your personal preference. Set bass to four, adjusted.
Next, we have a Bluetooth device. Now, there are two ways in which you can choose a Bluetooth device. You can take a Bluetooth speaker, and you could pair the Echo to it. So when ever you talk to the assistant or you have music playing or anything. It would then come out of the Bluetooth speaker.
Now, the second option is to use your phone and Bluetooth to the speaker. It will come out of here, this is nice for applications that may not be supported, like.
Let’s go ahead and pair this speaker to my echo. Put speaker in pairing mode, and then tap new device. Now, it’s going to search and find the Bluetooth speaker,
Second way is through your phone, what we’re going to do is we’re going to tap here a new device. We’re going to go into Bluetooth settings on our phone. You will see echo is available except the parents are now connected. So now it’s connected over here. Now if I want to play music from my phone.
Echo Dot Not Responding, Frozen or Not Working? FIXED!
- Plug it, either from here for the wall socket and leave it unplugged for 30 seconds,
- Plug it in with what, 30 seconds. It’ll start, it’ll freeze right away as well, so wait 30 seconds after 30 seconds is up.
- Plug it back in, give a little time to boot up and hopefully you are back up and running now.
- Now, if it’s still not working, what I am suggesting to you have another adapter power adapter connect that.
